Detroit style is a truly unique pizza, unlike anything you might have eaten in the past.

It's a pizza which is baked in a baking pan and is visibly thicker than its Italian cousins (about 2 fingers high).

The crust is deliciously crispy on the bottom (the pan is coated with olive oil) and fluffy and airy on the inside, similar to a well made fresh focaccia.

It is covered edge to edge with cheese (a blend of mozzarella, Monterey, cheddar and others which we keep on optimizing) which means there is no uncovered crust on the whole pizza!!! No bland edge, but wait there is more. The cheese also creates a delicious crunchy edge, imagine a cheese cracker or the crispy edge of a grilled cheese sandwich.

Finally the tomato sauce is topped on the cheese. Having the sauce on top of the cheese avoids soggy dough and a more intensive taste experience of the sauce. We are big fans of the reversed order!

A whole pan is equivalent in weight to a 20″ thin crust pizza, that's right 20″!!! The total weight is ~1kg / 2.2lbs, it will definitely feed a family.

We cut each pizza sheet into 6 slices. Calculate 1 to 2 slices per adult for a full meal.

We fully bake the pizza, slice it and immediately freeze it. All you need, is an oven (toaster oven & air fryer work as well) to enjoy a Detroit style pizza with a crispy crust and fluffy crumb. No oven? Don't despair, use Antonio Falco's heating a pizza in a pan method (link at the bottom). I figure microwave also works, haven't tried it yet.

Due to the nature of Detroit style pizza, it reheats beautifully. It might make it even better, as the bottom crisps up even more than fresh out of the oven. Not even sure which one I prefer.
